Apple's data center in Foulum near Viborg is one of the largest data center projects in Denmark, and it is still growing. This article gives you an overview of the town, the site and your options for worker accommodation in Viborg when your crew is working there.

Viborg: a central Jutland town with room to breathe

Viborg Municipality has around 98,000 residents and sits in the middle of Jutland. It is an old cathedral town and today the seat of the Central Denmark Region.

For visiting tradespeople, that means shops, gyms and places to eat close by, without big-city traffic and prices. It makes Viborg a good place to live for months at a time.

Apple's data center in Foulum

Apple announced the data center in February 2015, and construction began in November that year. The center went into full operation in 2020. It is located in Foulum in Viborg Municipality, close to the Tjele high-voltage hub, where the link to Norwegian hydropower comes ashore.

The data center runs services such as the App Store, Apple Music, iMessage and Siri for European users. It runs on renewable energy, and surplus heat from the servers is to be fed into Viborg's district heating network.

The center has been expanded several times:

  • 2022: Apple filled out the existing halls. The work involved around 300 people, including technicians and local subcontractors.
  • 2025: Apple confirmed to Viborg Stifts Folkeblad that the data center will be expanded again. Details have not been made public.

When a data center is being built or fitted out, specialists come from all over Denmark and abroad: electricians, plumbers, ventilation crews and technicians. They need to live close to the site for weeks or months.

Worker accommodation in Viborg close to the data center

We have worker accommodation in the Viborg area for crews working at the data center in Foulum. That spares your people long daily drives from Aarhus or Herning, and they can live together for the whole project.

Availability changes as our other projects come and go. Tell us how many you are and when you start, and we will send a concrete proposal with homes, beds and distance to the site.

All our homes are furnished and ready to move into. You get one agreement and one dedicated contact person, and we reply within 1 working day. We have data center experience from the Facebook data center in Odense.

The challenge and our solution

The challenge: Data center projects often start at short notice, and the crew grows and shrinks along the way. Hotels are expensive over several months, and private landlords rarely want long agreements with many changing tenants.

Our solution: We provide housing for projects with 2 to 80 employees and adjust the numbers as your crew changes. Our solutions have been developed together with trade unions and authorities.
